Eastwood on Political Correctness
Yeah, it’s a few days old at this point, but it’s still fun to read.
Acting legend Clint Eastwood , 79, apparently believes that political correctness has rendered modern society humourless, for he accuses younger generations of spending too much time trying to avoid being offensive.
If I had to pick five people to spend a day with, or maybe five people with whom I would want to sit down and have a beer, Clint Eastwood would make the list every time. We don’t make ’em like this anymore. Or at least the baby boomers didn’t. Shame.
On a sort of related note, rewatched The Outlaw Josey Wales last night – what a great movie (Sondra Locke aside). In particular I always love the exchange with the completely over-matched bounty hunter:
Bounty Hunter: “You’re wanted Wales.”
Josey Wales: “Reckon I’m right popular. You a bounty hunter?”
Bounty Hunter: “A man’s got to do somethin’ for a living these days.”
Wales: “Dyin’ ain’t much of a livin’, boy.”
You can guess what happens next. And it’s probably just me, but that exchange sort of sums up the government’s approach to this recession. “We’ve got to do SOMETHING!”
